Once again, American novelist Suzanne Collins returns with the second novel in the 'Hunger Games' trilogy, this time titled 'Catching Fire'. We join its courageous protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, as she faces harsh trials and tests in a game where contestants must fight to the death. According to the rules, the winner is the last combatant left alive.

Collins confronts us with the themes of 'rebellion' and 'revolution'. The novel ostensibly condemns the authority of the supposed country, which issues binding orders for its citizens to enter brutal games imposed by the 'Capitol', “…If it were up to me, I would try to forget everything about the Hunger Games (...) but the Victory Tour makes that impossible. The Capitol has deliberately kept the terror alive and constant in our minds, through its clever decision to schedule the tour between the annual games (...) This year, I am one of the stars of this show. I will have to travel from one district to another to stand before cheering crowds who secretly hate me, and I will be forced to look at the faces of the families whose children I killed…”.

Here, Katniss finds herself facing a difficult test. If she wants to survive, she must consider choices that balance survival with human emotions, and life with love. “…My only defense was to pretend that I had lost my mind under the influence of the wild love I felt for Peeta. They allowed both of us to stay alive for that reason, allowed us to be crowned winners, and to return to our home to celebrate and wave for the cameras before they left us alone. I mean, until now…”.

Then, Katniss felt responsible for the instability that ignited the sparks and caused the flames to spread, prompting the Capitol to seek revenge. Her life has turned into a spiral because she is unable to stop this revolution, while deep down she feels it must continue. As the stakes rise to extreme levels with the approach of the Victory Tour through the districts, a grueling march with Peeta.
