In one of the luxurious palace halls, Duke de Choiseul was sitting at his desk when a servant entered to announce the arrival of Chevalier Casanova de Seingalt. A few steps away stood a tall, slender young man, with youth bursting from his cheeks. He was in the spring of his life, not exceeding thirty, elegantly dressed, and had a face lightly tanned by the sun, which enhanced his attractiveness and charm.

The minister said, "I am pleased to meet you, sir, for I have heard much about your courage, eloquence, and adventures. You escaped from prison, did you not?"

Casanova nodded affirmatively without uttering a word, and the Duke continued, "I was told your escape was marvelous."

The Chevalier replied, "It is a long story, my lord. To tell it, I would need at least two hours."
