This book aims to assist organizational leaders in taking the necessary steps to initiate the strategic management process. Strategic management is an iterative process, often characterized by a degree of 'scatter', requiring dedicated effort from most individuals within the organization to propel it towards the future.
This book provides guidance on the processes that constitute strategic management, which include pre-planning (preparing for the planning processes), strategic planning, dissemination, implementation, measurement, and evaluation. It presents a model titled 'An Introduction to Strategic Management'.
The book highlights key success factors and aspects of failure. It expands on the keys to success by posing questions to strategic planners, with the aim of helping the reader understand the 'who, what, and how' of achieving success. Aspects of failure are not directly addressed as they are simply the inverse of the key success factors.
Finally, it includes case studies of several institutions that were part of the research effort to develop this book. These case studies follow the basic strategic processes, with each one outlining the institution's overall vision, mission, and operating principles. A notable feature of this book is its appendix, which contains a glossary of the terms used.
