On the stage, the taboos that restrain Arab women in their everyday lives have collapsed. Despite challenges, they have found their voice to express concerns and ambitions. This book explores women's contributions in theater as actresses, writers, and directors—a presence ignored and sidelined for a long time. It wasn't until feminist criticism, rooted in deconstruction and Foucault's archaeological method of knowledge, helped reveal women's discourse. The author examines works by Lebanese directors like Nidal Al Ashkar, Siham Nassar, Lina Abyad, Jana Elhassan, and Lina Al Sanie, along with Syrian director Naela Al Atrash, who embraced the challenge. The book traces the transformation and progress of women's place in theater. Watfa Hammadi, a theater criticism professor at Lebanese University and the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Kuwait, is a member of the Lebanese Women's Research Association. She has conducted studies on theater, Arab identity, university theater, new academic generation theater, and feminism in theater.
