Beyond Marx? This book explores two questions: What does the world look like post-Marx? What do Marxists do after Marx? Both inquiries are implied in the title. The book delves into the origin of the theory, noting that as representations of reality, they were originally incomplete. Reality itself, in the twentieth century and beyond, requires new representations. The tools and methods of research have evolved, surpassing simplistic dualities. Moreover, the necessity for 'grand narratives,' or comprehensive and exclusive theories, has become subject to doubt and even rejection. This is an attempt to reflect on the theory, the structure of the world (globalization), and the three systems that dominated the twentieth century and beyond: totalitarianism, democracy, nationalism, and Islam.
