This book serves as an introduction to the experience of the poet Badr Shakir al-Sayyab with the city and his stance(s) towards it. It seeks to present a picture of this to the extent that material related to it was available to the researcher, often using al-Sayyab's poetic text as a source and guide for her study. Al-Sayyab suffered from a sense of loneliness in the city, due to his unceasing nostalgia for "Jaykur." The new life he moved to could not make him forget the days of his childhood and adolescence that he lived in his village, which was a major reason for his constant feeling of alienation. The city formed a profound experience in al-Sayyab's poetry, and his portrayal of it emerged from the reality of his life and experience within it. Therefore, his general vision of the city was pessimistic, focusing on its negative aspects, and he used it in his poems as a symbol of social and political deviation.
