Here I am, during this moment of nostalgia and this area of flying, where the plane's captain warned about the poor path, potential slips, sudden jolts, and falling. I'm trying to rediscover myself, searching for the purpose of this journey's origin. I calmly review my lazy and vague diaries and slide back into the narrow seat, almost falling before sitting upright again. I look around, observing the passengers' confusion, fear, and naivety. Some are hysterically laughing, some are sobbing, others are remembering their faith again, and we are all lost. What am I doing here? I slide back, sit upright, and suddenly feel nauseous, not from the turbulence, but from the pale faces and dark intentions around. I feel embarrassed by my nausea and hesitate to stand or scream, seeking a reason for the fear accompanying me all my life, except in this moment of truth. I can't find a reason now, nor a logical reason to fasten the seatbelt. Sonia Khader is a Palestinian poet and writer born and residing in Ramallah.
