Azazel by Youssef Ziedan

Azazel is a novel by Youssef Ziedan, published by Dar Al-Shorouk in 2008. The story is set in the 5th century AD, spanning Upper Egypt, Alexandria, and northern Syria. It follows the adoption of Christianity by the Roman Empire and the ensuing theological conflict between church fathers, new believers, and remnants of paganism.
