Shou', a woman similar in age and circumstance to her friend Watfa, differs from her in personality, spiritual energy, desire, and ambition. Shou' lives with her blind father and young brother, working as a folk artist at parties and weddings.

The novel 'Arthal Al-Faqd' explores the aesthetics of popular literature of that period and before, through Watfa's interest in poetry inherited from her grandmother Latifa and her continuous reading. The novel also delves into Saudi folk songs through the character of Shou', who loves good music and listens to songs by great singers of the sixties like Fawzi Mahsoon and Salama Al Abdullah, offering a brief glimpse into the lives of some artists.
