In the pre-Islamic era, some Arabs adopted man-made religions venerating fire and light, influenced by the Persians who occupied Yemen, which was closely connected to the Hejaz, and also through Al-Hirah, which had strong ties to Mecca. Zoroastrianism became a prevalent religion among the Tamim tribe. Notable followers included Al-Aqra'a bin Habis and Waki' bin Hassan.
