The author presents an overview of alternative and resistance poetry and some of the poets who wrote it. This is not intended to be a comprehensive study that covers all aspects of resistance poetry, but rather to introduce the Arab reader to alternative poetry in English that is difficult to access through mainstream media and cultural channels.

In addition to introductions and theoretical explanations, the book includes twenty alternative poems by poets who wrote in English, regardless of whether it was their native language. These poems vary in their writing and publication dates but are united in their goal and message. As intellectuals and observers see it, this book fills a void in the Arab library and presents the Arab reader with a new, unfamiliar type of translated Western poetry.
