The book "Al-Sunnah wa al-Bid'ah" (The Sunnah and Religious Innovation) is a unique investigation to clarify the meaning of the Sunnah in the hadiths of the Prophet (peace be upon him), authored by the esteemed scholar Abdullah bin Mahfouz bin Muhammad al-Haddad al-Husseini al-Hadrami (d. 1417 AH), former head of the Sharia judiciary in Mukalla, Hadhramaut, Yemen. He came across a treatise written by the eminent jurist, our brother Abdullah bin Mahfouz al-Haddad al-Alawi al-Hadrami, in which he responds to a book titled "Al-Sunan al-Mubtada'at" (Innovated Sunnahs), compiled by Mr. Muhammad bin Abd al-Salam Khidr al-Shuqayri. Driven by blind fanaticism, al-Shuqayri filled his book with attacks and misguided the nation's scholars by accusing them of introducing innovations into the religion, claiming they contradicted the noble hadith: "Every newly-invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is a misguidance."
