A selection from the work 'Al-'Ilal' by Al-Khallal, compiled by Muwaffaq al-Din Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Qudamah al-Maqdisi, one of the leading imams of the Hanbali school of jurisprudence. Born in Jamma'il, Palestine, in 541 AH (1146/1147 CE), he later moved to Damascus. He traveled to Baghdad with his cousin, the great hadith scholar Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi, where they studied under prominent scholars like Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani. Ibn Qudamah made significant contributions to the Hanbali madhhab through his numerous influential writings.
