In his novel "Al-Arja'", novelist Mohammed Dhib Al-Humaidani brings us back to the charm of the romantic novel that originated in England and France and later spread to other countries. He focuses on the inner worlds of his protagonists, as carriers of an idea or a feeling. He chose "Majid" and "Ghada" to portray the romantic suffering these two characters went through, which made them unhappy lovers, due to a set of customs, traditions, and stereotypes that family and society impose on relationships and marriage in the Arab world. This was not the case for the girl (Al-Arja'). Did the novelist intend to glorify the values of freedom and human feelings and break free from society's mold, or to surrender to disappointment in an era of tragic ideological bankruptcy?
