"Adab al-Katib" (The Scribe's Etiquette) is a book on the principles, etiquette, and knowledge of writing. It consists of an introduction and four sections: The first section addresses knowledge and comprises sixty-three chapters; the second focuses on perfecting handwriting and includes forty-seven chapters; the third deals with correcting speech and contains thirty-five chapters; and the fourth covers structures, which the author divides into four topics—verb structures and their meanings, and noun structures and their meanings—with examples and evidence provided throughout.
