Adab al-Katib is a book on the principles, ethics, and knowledge of writing. It consists of an introduction and four sections. The first section, on knowledge, comprises sixty-three chapters. The second, on correcting the hand (writing), includes forty-seven chapters. The third, on correcting the tongue (speech), includes thirty-five chapters. The fourth section is on structures, which the author divided into four topics: the structures of verbs and their meanings, and the structures of nouns and their meanings, complete with examples and evidence throughout.
