This book is about the sciences of Hadith. Scholars have given great attention to detailing the arts of Hadith and have written extensively on the etiquette of seeking knowledge in general, and seeking Hadith in particular. This book discusses the dictation of Hadith for transcription and the writing of Hadith itself.

It begins with an introduction clarifying that the Prophet, peace be upon him, dictated Hadith. It then discusses the etiquette of the dictator (al-mumlī): maintaining one's appearance, using the siwak, wrapping the turban, wearing perfume, walking with purpose, offering greetings, praying two rak'ahs, holding sessions in mosques and elsewhere, choosing a prompter (al-mustamlī), overseeing the people, having a loud and clear voice, being alert and eloquent, and more.

Then, it dedicates a chapter to the etiquette of the scribe (al-kātib): starting early, their manner of walking, their attire, the inkwell, handwriting, and other related topics.
