As various sciences have advanced, so too have educational sciences and psychological theories. Numerous studies have shown that individuals in educational institutions are divided into different categories. Some are capable of acquiring concepts and learning various skills with ease, albeit to varying degrees. Others struggle to understand concepts or master skills, due to reasons that may be structural, physical, psychological, mental, or environmental.

With the increased focus on advancing educational theories to their highest levels of sophistication, new ideas, theories, and opinions have emerged concerning a group of students who were previously overlooked and neglected. It was difficult to classify them as intellectually disabled, as they appeared normal, yet they could not keep up with their peers in learning. Consequently, this group was often mislabeled due to their inability to learn, which only increased their frustration.

From this context, the topic of learning difficulties emerged. It was not the result of unified efforts in a single specialized field; rather, various disciplines from different scientific areas have contributed and continue to contribute to its research. However, the extent and quality of these contributions vary depending on the historical period of the field's development.
