Before becoming a widely recognized popular author, Paulo Coelho, born in 1947 in Rio de Janeiro, was a playwright, theater director, hippie, and songwriter for Brazil's most famous stars. In 1986, he followed the pilgrimage route of Saint James in Spain and described his experience in a book titled 'The Pilgrimage', published in 1987. His next book, 'The Alchemist', published the following year, became a bestseller in 29 countries and marked him as a leading contemporary author and a true phenomenon in the publishing world. His works continued to gain popularity, including titles such as 'The Valkyries', 'By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept', 'The Fifth Mountain', 'Veronika Decides to Die', 'The Devil and Miss Prym', 'Eleven Minutes', 'The Zahir', 'The Witch of Portobello', 'The Winner Stands Alone', 'Brida', 'Like the Flowing River', 'The Manual of the Warrior of Light', 'Aleph', 'Manuscript Found in Accra', 'Adultery', and 'The Spy'. His books have been published in 170 countries and translated into 81 languages, selling over 210 million copies. He has been awarded 115 international prizes and prestigious honors, and since 2007, he has been named a United Nations Messenger of Peace. He is the most followed author on social media.
