It is said that in ancient times, an old woman lived alone in her country house. This old woman was very stingy and greedy. If a guest came to visit, she would quickly lock her doors so as not to have to host or honor him with the bounty God had bestowed upon her. One day, an old man, a traveler, passed by her house. Before the old woman could rush inside to close the door, the old man greeted her, saying, "Peace be upon you." The old woman replied, "And upon you be peace. What are you doing here, and what do you want?" The old man thought to himself, "This old woman seems very stingy, neither kind nor generous." Then he said to her, "My dear lady, I am a traveler, and my bag is empty of food. I am starving. Do you have a piece of bread or anything else to eat?" After much grumbling, she brought him a piece of old, very dry bread with black spots on it, which crumbled at the slightest touch. After much thought, the old man said to himself: My intuition was correct, and now it's time to teach her a harsh lesson. Then he started frying the eggs with the pebbles. After he finished cooking, he began to eat. Every time he found a stone, he picked it up and threw it away. Then he left some of the eggs and stones in a dish. He looked at the old woman and said respectfully, “Why aren’t you eating? Come on, it’s your turn, madam.” The old woman took the plate from the man’s hand and reached for it. She picked out a pebble to make sure she was eating. Indeed. And as soon as the old woman bit the stones, her only tooth in the middle of her mouth broke. The old woman deeply regretted her greed and avarice… As for the old man, he turned away from her after advising her that greed does more harm than good.
