Everything you need to get started with the FTDI FT232RL USB to serial IC is included in the SparkFun 5V FTDI Starter Kit. The included board's pinout is compatible with both authentic Arduino and cloned 5V Arduino boards since it conforms to the FTDI cable standard. Additionally, it can be applied to general serial applications. This board's primary distinction is that it exposes the FTDI cable's DTR pin rather than its RTS pin. When a new sketch is downloaded, an Arduino target can automatically reset thanks to the DTR pin. The ability to download a sketch without pressing the reset button is a really great feature. Any Arduino board with the reset feature will be automatically reset by this board.
